MAHOGANY (Mbaua, Nyasaland mahogany, Red mahogany, Umbaua)

From Africa; Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Color is a lustrous golden brown color. Grain is usually interlocked and fairly straight. Texture is usually medium and uniform. The wood has good polishing properties, and is reported to take a high polish.

Uses include fine furniture, moldings, windows, boat building, cabinetmaking, medicinal use, clogs, shingles.

Specific Gravity is .56 (dense). Turns fairly well.
