ROSEWOOD, BRAZILIAN - var. SANTOS (Cabiuna, Jacaranda, Palisander, Rio rosewood)
From Brazil.
Varies in color from shades of brown to red or violet, and is irregularly streaked with
black. The grain is typically straight, occasionally wavy. Texture is medium to coarse and
of medium luster.
Common uses include cabinetmaking, fine furniture, marquetry, pianos, tool handles,
drum sticks, organ pipes, sounding boards, umbrella handles, wainscoting and xylophones.
Specific Gravity is .85 (very dense). Ease of turning varies from easy to very
difficult.
